Disco Assault
It's time for a second opinion on first impressions. Time to take the ol' bullshit detector in for a bit of repair work. See, it's easy to get jaded pretty easy when seeing band after band on a regular basis and I can recall seeing this band in their infancy and thinking they had promise. That was it. Promise. Then I got their demo and saw them again. Getting warmer but still not quite done yet. Then I got this in the mail. And if it ain't a primitive slab of rage I dunno what is.
The menace is loud and clear enough to peel the paint off yer walls but sometimes that ain't enough. It's the accuracy of the delivery that rivals the most well timed and placed knockout i've ever seen delivered in a bar around here. Pure accurate brutality delivered in the best way possible sets this apart from the hundreds of other 7" records you will see this year. And don't expect any manifestos or 10 minute long songs either. There ain't none.
Think about the first time you heard the Negative Approach ep or any other classic American hardcore punk 7"'s and you get the idea. Just kick the door in, fuck the place up, get the fuck out. And that's something that is sorely lacking in today's world of attempts to rehash a sound long gone. The immediacy and aggression is usually lacking. Not so here. As a matter of fact, I know NA is an overused cliche but it fits because part of their aggression was their love of Oi! and with a name like Disco Assault you know they love the Oi! Well, that and Paul's laranyx shredding scream reminds me of John Brannon in some respects.
But, enough about the bands of yore! Disco Assault is here today and I would strongly recommend you pick up this record along with anything else they do in the future. Matter of fact... Go see em if they come to your town and feel the burn. Until then take this slab of 1981 styled "1, 2, fuck you!", turn it up loud and get ready to fight!
